AMC Monadnock Trip

2006-08-19 – 2006-08-19

Sat, Aug. 19. If you haven't hiked Monadnock before, give it a try and find out why it's now the most-hiked mountain in the world. This 4.5-mile loop near the southern border of NH is great for experienced hikers who like the views or beginners who like a challenge. Combined trip with AMC Narragansett Young Members, AMC Boston Young Members and AMC Worcester Young Members.

Gear List

  • Hiking boots and appropriate socks (avoid cotton; use hiking socks to avoid blisters)
  • T-shirt and shorts or long pants (zipoff style is great). You can start off wearing additional layers if you want, but hiking heats you up, so be prepared. Synthetic wicking fabrics are recommended for comfort instead of cotton, which gets wet and can get cold.
  • Daypack containing the following:
    • 2-3 liters of water
    • Lunch
    • Snacks
    • Rain gear
    • Extra shirt or jacket in case it's cool (rain gear may be able to do double duty here)
    • Flashlight or headlamp (should always have this even though this is a shorter trip)
    • Suggested additional items: pocketknife, whistle, bug spray, sunscreen, camera, TP and Ziploc bags if you may need them for sanitary purposes
  • Poles are optional. If you like using them feel free to do so, but they're certainly not required.
