Spring Hiking Program 2010

Come learn backcountry and mountain day hiking & camping in New England. Lectures and small group Q&A with Boston Chapter leaders as well as hands-on opportunities with equipment. Topics include heat management and clothing, group hiking techniques, energy management and nutrition, physical conditioning, above tree-line hiking, weather, camping techniques, equipment, food prep and more. There will be weekend trips throughout the spring offered exclusively or preferentially to participants in this class so you can put your learning in practice. Trip info will be posted here

The program runs on 5 consecutive Tuesday nights, April 20 and 27, and May 4, 11 and 18 from 6:15 - 9:00 PM. May 11 and 18 cover backpacking and can be taken as unit. The program is at AMC Cabot Auditorium, 4 Joy St., Boston, MA. Near Park Street T Station and Boston Common. Note: Discount parking sticker, $6 (we appreciate exact change), available at SHP for Boston Common Garage only.

The full 5 night program costs $45 for members/$50 non-members w/advance registration and payment (before April 14). At-the-door registration is $50 members/$55 non-members. The backpacking sessions only, May 11 and 18, cost $20 for members/$25 for non-members. Please indicate the amount you are paying in the questions/comments field below. You can pay in advance by Paypal or mailing a check. You can pay at the door by check, or if absolutely necessary, cash. If you want to become an AMC member click here. This form will register you for the classroom portion of the course, which is open to people of all ability levels. The form below is normally used for hiking trips, so it may automatically ask about carpooling, allergies, meds or emergency contacts, which you can leave blank for the classroom portion. Registration instructions for trips will be provided later. You will not actually have to sign a waiver until you show up for a hike.
